Description
The town mansion of Moscow governor general V. Dolgorukov-Krymsky situated at the corner of Okhotny riad and Bolshaya Dmitrovka street was built in the middle of the XVIII century. In 1784 it was bought by Moscow Noble society for the Gentry assembly club and rebuilt by M. Kazakov in 1784-1787. The architect showed brilliant skills in the transformation of a construction belonging to different times to a classical ensemble. It is very characteristic for the Moscow classicist school not to demolish the old stone walls. As a result an asymmetric complex of buildings on the old mansion got the representative appearance of a great public place.
