Description
The facade of the Small Hermitage (J.-B. Vallin de la Mothe. 1764–1769) keeps characteristic features of the early classicism. Its composition is being destinguished by adjusted proportions and a well-defined pattern of the details. The ground floor is being rusticated aflat, a slim hexastyle Corinthian portico and pilasters are joining the two upper floors. Sculptures on the attic as well as statues of Flora and Pomona serve an example of a seamless fusion of architecture and sculpture, characteristic for maestros of all the periods of Russian classicism.
